Breeding
Here you can find out the history of Lipizzaners, how horses are branded in stables, stallion lines, mare breeds, horse sales and sheep breeding Ile de France breed.
NAMES OF LIPICAN HORSES ON STABLE
Lipizzaners at the Kelebija Stud Farm are named after the established order of Lipizzaner stud farms from the former Yugoslavia. The names of the stallions are composed of two names, and the mares of one.
Male descendants get the first part of the name from their father's line (Maestoso), and the second part from their mother's line (Monteaura III), e.g. Maestoso Monteaura III.
Female descendants (e.g. Batosta VII) from the father of Maestoso X Mahonia and from the mother of Batosta II, receive the mother's name and a Roman numeral denoting the ordinal number of the female descendant in the genus Batosta.
HORSE SALES
Kelebija Stud Farm is not only successful in breeding Lipizzaner horses, but it is also known for selling horses not only in Serbia but also abroad. So far, we have sold and exported horses to 12 countries.
SHEEP BREEDING
Since 2010, the Kelebija Stud Farm has also started breeding Ile de France sheep.
This breed is known for its exceptional meat quality, extraordinary daily growth of lambs, high fertility and good maternal ability. It has the ability out of seasonal mating and lambing in summer and autumn, so that the inventory of lambing is reduced to 7-8 months, thus enabling three lambs for two years. Currently, there are about 150 sheep in the stud farm, of which 79 are housed
STAMPING HORSES ON KELEBIA STABLE
When he was 6 months old, the foals of Kelebija Stud Farm received a stamp. Until the end of 2003, it consisted of the letter J (purebred Yugoslav Lipizzaner) on the left thigh. Since 2004, these are the letters LK (Lipizzaner born and raised at Kelebija Stud Farm).
On the right side of the door, the stamp consists of numbers, the last two numbers of the year of birth and the current (ordinal) number from the register of foals (eg 02 40, born in 2002 and entered in the book of foals under ordinal number 40).
STALLION LINES USED ON KELEBIA STABLES
